What is the EJU Examination?

The EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students) is a standardized entrance exam administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) in cooperation with Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is designed to evaluate two key competencies of international applicants:

•        Japanese Language Proficiency — the ability to understand and use academic Japanese

•        Basic Academic Abilities — knowledge in Science, Mathematics, or Social Science at the higher secondary level

Approximately 494 out of 983 Japanese universities (more than 50%) require or strongly recommend EJU scores as part of their international student admissions process. Around 73% of national and public universities use EJU scores, making it an essential credential for serious applicants.

A high EJU score can also make you eligible for scholarships worth approximately ¥52,000 per month for top-ranked scorers — a life-changing opportunity for Indian students.
